9 + one is a strategic program to improve patient safety performance in healthcare settings. The program recognizes that each organization and team is unique and responds with a rigorous assessment process and solutions tailored to enable and sustain improvements in patient safety.
The program:
- is designed to improve patient safety performance through direct application of the principles and practices of High Reliability Organizations (HRO’s) to daily clinical practice;

- is designed to strengthen safety leadership at the frontline, within teams and across organizations;
- helps interprofessional teams address clinical performance issues in real time, making it practical and enabling buy-in from busy practitioners;
- addresses systems as well as human factors affecting patient safety;
- creates consistent approaches to patient safety that can be integrated across healthcare organizations;
- integrates with existing organizational patient safety structures and initiatives;
